This update provides an overview of OHS’s involvement in the 2026 D2 Flower Show, which took place on June 13th. Those interested in learning more can access the Final Report to the D2 Board, prepared by Show Committee Chair Gay MacQuarrie, through the PDF link included here.
There was no Society host this year; instead, the event was organized by the D2 Board with planning support from several D2 Societies. I served as the OHS representative on the planning committee and also volunteered for event set‑up, on‑the‑day organization, and as one of the two “official” photographers.
The planning committee agreed to retire the practice of awarding trophies this year, and various trophies were returned to the Societies that had donated them. My garage currently hosts the OHS trophy for “Best in Show – Houseplants” (silver bowl on a wood base).
Overall, the event was financially solvent, though there was a downturn in the number of entries. New this year was a generously resourced and well‑staffed free children’s workshop (organized by Wendy Good, West Carleton), where approximately 50 children made dish/fairy gardens, bee hotels, or bug houses. The Report identifies several “lessons learned” and considerations for next year’s Show.
As a side note, the Show Schedule booklet was awarded 2nd prize in its category at the July OHA Convention and Annual Meeting.
