A MESSAGE FROM LARRY CHAMNEY, OHS PRESIDENT
Welcome to the Ottawa Horticultural Society

Larry Chamney, OHS President
Cultivating Community, Knowledge, and Connection
Since 1892, the Ottawa Horticultural Society (OHS) has brought together Ottawa gardeners to share horticultural knowledge and best practices. The beautification of our community and cultivation of food crops has been a constant theme throughout. However, the OHS has evolved, and continues to adapt, to address emergent horticultural issues, such as support for community-led gardens, biodiversity and sustainable gardening, creating food and habitat for pollinators and wildlife, managing invasive species and pests, and food security.
Our volunteers contribute time and talent to support the establishment of community-led gardens, share knowledge at monthly talks, encourage best practices to sustain pollinators and biodiversity, host plant sales and exchanges, organize garden tours, and publicize our successes. And much, much more.
Gardening is more than just about plants – it is a journey of learning and sharing that connects us with nature and with each other. Whatever one’s age, ability or level of ambition, gardening can provide a sense of purpose, accomplishment and fulfillment.
We encourage you to come out and attend some of our meetings and events, speak with our volunteers and members about our programs, and consider joining our community of gardeners.
We look forward to welcoming new members to our community of passionate gardeners.
Larry Chamney
President, Ottawa Horticultural Society
