OHS Treasurer and Controller Vacancies - UPDATE

 

As you know, the OHS Board has been looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to join our leadership team as Treasurer and Controller. These roles are essential to supporting the Society’s continued growth and the smooth running of our programs and activities.
The Board is very pleased to announce that Tuula Talvila has been appointed as Controller. Tuula has been a member of the OHS since 2009 and a Board member for several years. 

We are also pleased to report that Rob Brandon and Lori Flanagan have kindly offered to return to the Board as Co-Treasurers, on an interim basis until the end of the calendar year. This decision was not made lightly, and the Board is very grateful for their dedication and willingness to step once more into the breach to keep the Society’s financial affairs in good order. 

The appointment of Rob and Lori does provide us with some additional breathing space to actively continue our search to fill the Treasurer position on an ongoing basis. As an OHS member, if you can consider contributing your energy and skills as Treasurer within a collaborative and supportive volunteer team, we would love to hear from you.

OHS Treasurer and Controller

Help shape the future of the Ottawa Horticultural Society! We’re looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to join our leadership team as Treasurer and Controller. The OHS is seeking two dedicated volunteers to join our leadership team as Treasurer and Controller. These roles are essential to supporting the Society’s continued growth and the smooth running of our programs.

After several years of exceptional service, Rob Brandon is stepping back from the Treasurer role. To make the workload more manageable for future volunteers, the Board has divided the responsibilities into two complementary positions.

The Treasurer will guide the Society’s overall financial stewardship, including preparing budgets and financial reports. The Controller will manage day‑to‑day financial transactions and maintain our records in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We welcome volunteers with strong organizational and analytical skills. Experience with financial administration or basic bookkeeping, especially with accounting software such as QBO, is an asset. Training on QBO, along with mentoring and onboarding support, will be provided.
