A MESSAGE FROM JULIANNE LABRECHE, OHS PRESIDENT
Welcome Members

Julianne Labreche, OHS President
(Master Gardener (MGOC),
Master Naturalist, Ecology Ottawa Nature Champion (2023) Pollinator Steward and Ontario Service Award Recipient)
Do you like to dig in the dirt? If so, joining the Ottawa Horticultural Society (OHS) will let you dig deep into the many benefits of gardening. You’ll meet fellow local gardeners, socialize, learn, and , if you’re willing, take part in enjoyable outdoor activities and community projects.
Our volunteers organize talks, support civic initiatives, coordinate summer outings, dig up plants for sales, auctions, and exchanges, and occasionally plan bus trips, usually to buy more plants or visit inspiring gardens.
Gardening keeps us healthy. It reduces stress, stretches our muscles, and connects us with nature. In fact, it can become a joyful addiction once you get your hands dirty.
Digging in the dirt appeals to people of all ages, from children growing their first sunflower seeds to seniors cultivating vegetables to help reduce food insecurity in Ottawa. Gardeners come in many forms: native plant advocates, vegetable growers, indoor plant lovers, Japanese garden enthusiasts, and rock gardeners. The OHS offers something for everyone.
Whether you’re a longtime member or just joining us, welcome to a community that celebrates every kind of gardener.
No wonder the Ottawa Horticultural Society, founded in 1892, continues to thrive. Gardening is a hobby that never grows old.
Sincerely
Julianne Labreche
