September: A Snapshot of Arctic Botany: Paul Sokoloff

Scientists from the Canadian Museum of Nature have been documenting plants in the Canadian Arctic for over 100 years. Join us for this talk with Paul Sokoloff – frequently found digging up and pressing specimens in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories – who will cover the past and present of Arctic plant research at the Canadian Museum of Nature, including ongoing research and the links between these studies and your own gardens.

April: Bringing the Outdoors In:  Amber Tiede

Amber is a floral designer and flower farmer here in the Ottawa area. She grew up in Oregon on the west coast until she married and moved to Canada … both she and her husband Ed run their business together along with the help of their four children.

She has shared the attached tips and video to spark some inspiration on how to bring nature into our homes.

March:  Design Basics and Plant Selection

Mary Ann Van Berlo guides us through the elements and principles of design and discusses how plants fit into the design principles and share some advice on plant selection. There are tips and pointers that we can use in our own gardens.  Note this video is not on the OHS You Tube Channel

Mary Ann is an avid gardener who volunteers with Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton. Her 2.4 acre garden on the St. Lawrence is part of the 1000 Islands and Rideau Canal Garden Trail. Since the trail opened in June 2015, Mary Ann has welcomed many visitors and bus tours to her garden. In June, 2017, Mary Ann’s garden was featured in Ontario Gardener Magazine.
