2021  Virtual Spring Flower Show

Rules:

  1. See Rules Governing OHS Shows in the OHS Yearbook  
  2. Exhibits must be photographed in 2021.
  3. Entries must be submitted by 7:00 pm June 11, 2020.
  4. Each entry is to be submitted by email to OHSvirtualshow@gmail.com with the Class number and description in the subject line.  Each entry will include one photo, the name of the entry (e.g., name of the plant), and the name of the exhibitor.
  5. Each entry must be a single specimen unless otherwise specified.  Except for Section C, the entry may be a photograph of the specimen in a container, or a close-up of the specimen with no other plant material in the photograph.
  6. Any entries not meeting the rules above will be disqualified.
  7. Should more than 3 entries be submitted in a class, only the last 3 received will be accepted. The remainder will be disqualified.
  8. Plant bucks will be issued for each eligible exhibit and will be valid for any OHS plant sale in 2022.

DIVISION 1:  HORTICULTURE

Section A:  Indoor Plants

  1. African violet
  2. Orchid
  3. Other blooming plant
  4. Foliage plant
  5. Cactus or succulent
  6. Passed through the generations; a plant handed down from a parent or grandparent

Section B:  Outdoor Ornamental Plants

  1. Single-petalled bloom on a stem
  2. Multi-petalled bloom on a stem
  3. Spray of blooms showing at least two clusters of bloom
  4. Spire of blooms
  5. Ornamental foliage, one stem or branch
  6. Ornamental shrub or tree, at least 3 branches
  7. Blooming plant, whole plant including foliage
  8. Foliage plant, whole plant

Section C:  Edibles – must be exhibited on a plate

  1. Leafy greens, 3 specimens of same cultivar
  2. Other vegetables, 3 specimens of same cultivar
  3. Berries or other small fruits, 3 specimens of same cultivar
  4. For the birds, photo of plant, variety name and purpose to be included in the entry

 DIVISION II :  SPECIAL EXHIBITS

Section D:  Collections, must include a creative title for the entry

  1. Indoor garden, at least 3 plants in a container
  2. Rock garden planter, at least 3 alpine plants in a container
  3. Annual planter designed by the exhibitor with at least 3 kinds of annuals in a container
  4. Hanging basket designed by the exhibitor with at least 3 kinds of plants
  5. Planter for the front door or balcony designed by the exhibitor
  6. Spring bulbs, at least 10 specimens of at least 3 kinds (garden photo or in a container), with variety names (e.g., tulips, daffodils, hyacinths)

 SHOW AWARDS

First place in each class will receive an additional $1 in Plant Bucks.

A prize of $20 will be awarded to:

  • Best in Section
  • Highest aggregate in Division
  • Best in Show

2021 Virtual Fall Flower Show

General Rules:

  2. Exhibits must be photographed between August 22, 2020 and September 9, 2020, inclusive.
  3. Entries must be submitted by 7:00 pm September 14, 2020.
  4. Each entry is to be submitted by email to OHSvirtualshow@gmail.com with the Class number and description in the subject line. Each entry will include one photo, the name of the entry  (e.g., name of the plant), and the name of the exhibitor.
  5. Each entry must be a single specimen unless otherwise specified. Except for Section C, the entry may be a photograph of the specimen in a container, or a close-up of the specimen with no other plant material in the photograph.
  6. Any entries not meeting the rules above will be disqualified.

HORTICULTURE DIVISION:  OPEN

Section A:  Garden Flowers

  1. Chrysanthemum, Garden type, 1 spray
  2. Chrysanthemum, single or semi-double, 1 spray
  3. Dahlia, 10 cm (4”) and over
  4. Dahlia, under 10 cm (4”)
  5. Rose, 1 specimen bloom or spray
  6. Begonia, tuberous, 1 bloom
  7. Aster, perennial, 1 spray
  8. Rudbeckia
  9. Sedum
  10. Hydrangea
  11. Echinaceae
  12. Any other garden flower

Section B:  Other Garden Plants

  1. Ornamental Grass(-like) plant
  2. Foliage – whole plant
  3. Holiest hosta, 1 leaf
  4. Lacy leaf or leaves, showing decorative leaf-cutter damage

 

Section C:  Edibles

  1. Tomato, 3 specimens, one cultivar
  2. Tomato, 3 cultivars, one specimen of each
  3. Heritage fruit or vegetable, 1 specimen
  4. Any root vegetable, 3 specimens, one cultivar
  5. Any other vegetable, one cultivar
  6. Any berries or other small fruits, 3 specimens, one cultivar
  7. Any other fruit, 2 specimens, one cultivar
  8. Funky fruit or vegetable, 1 specimen unusual shape

 

Section D:  Collections

All collections to be exhibited in one container

  1. Collection of annual flowers, at least 3 kinds, 2 stems or sprays of each
  2. Collection of perennial flowers, at least 3 kinds, 2 stems or sprays of each
  3. Butterfly garden – collection of plants gown for the butterflies – named
  4. Collection of foliage, annual or perennial, at least 3 kinds, one specimen of each
  5. Herb garden – collection of herbs, named

 

 

SPECIAL EXHIBITS DIVISION

Section F

  1. Dish garden – a miniature landscape in an open shallow container with at least 3 growing, established plants, maximum 46 cm (18”) in any dimension
  2. Trough garden – at least 3 growing established plants displayed in a hypertufa container, maximum 61 cm x 61 cm (24” x 24”)
  3. Harvest bounty – collection of fall fruit and vegetables displayed in a basket, maximum 61 cm x 61 cm (24” x 24”)
