Double Trillium!

Thanks to Jean Stalker for this picture and to Brian Carson for bringing his discovery to our May meeting.

Is there an exquisite trillium like this in the woods near you, just waiting for you to find it? This is Jean Stalker's Photo of an unusual full double Trillium found here in the Ottawa valley by a lucky local rambler. It is graced with twenty one petals instead of the normal three. As it does not produce seed, it blooms for a longer period. A Trillium similar to this, but with all white petals was found near Syracuse, NY, eighty years ago. That form, "Snow Bunting" received an award of merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
